I'll be away on a short vacation next week, but before I go I want to update all of our clients about an exciting change in our Web stats (yes I just used "exciting" and "Web stats" in the same sentence).
Also, one of the last things on my schedule before I go is a live Webinar this Wednesday night...I'll be publicly critiquing 6 failing Web sites and offering some solutions for their Web marketing woes. You should consider attending - registration is free and the link is below.
Table of contents:
- Etna Migrates to Enhanced Reporting Package
- Live Webinar - Wednesday, September 10
- Archive of Past Issues
- Become Our Fan on Facebook
Happy reading,

Ryan Miller

In August we made a migration to a new Web site reporting system called Urchin®. Urchin replaces LiveStats.
Urchin, owned by Google, is hailed as the most accurate log analysis software on the market. The software looks at the same server log files that LiveStats used, but analyzes them in a completely different way. As a result, if you were to look at the stats for your site in the two systems side by side you would see some marked differences.
Urchin attempts to report on "unique visitors," where LiveStats reported on "visits." Urchin will show a lower monthly visitor count than LiveStats, since it counts individual visitors only once, even if they visit the site multiple times in one month.
Urchin does a better job of recording visitation to dynamic pages, like the pages of managed Photo Galleries or news systems. As a result, your page view count will increase in Urchin.
Here's why we're moving to Urchin:
- Great interface: Urchin's award-winning interface makes combing through your data easier than ever. Each report is clearly explained and simple to interpret.
- Rich graphics: Urchin creates charts and graphs on the fly for easy visual analysis.
- Advanced filters: We have new tools at our disposal to filter your data in ways that make it easier to drill down into detail.
- Easy export: We can export any report to Word or Excel at the click of a button.
- Smarter data capture: Unlike LiveStats, Urchin can blend log data with detailed user information to offer more information about how each visitor interacts with your site.
- Improved performance: Urchin runs significantly faster than LiveStats.
- Better marketing detail: Urchin handles referral source, keywords, and search engine tracking more accurately than LiveStats.
Urchin also does a much better job of tracking referrals from the top search engines, and discriminating between organic and paid search referrals.
Accessing Your Urchin Stats:
We've made it easy to access Urchin. You will find a quick link to Urchin in CORE, Etna's client Extranet. Once you have logged in to CORE, just click "Monitor Your Stats" to the right of your listed Web site address to launch Urchin for that site.
If you need to know your CORE login information, please call our client services manager, Nancy Bruce, at 866-374-3762 x115, or speak with your Account Manager.

Live Webinar - Wednesday, September 10
This Wednesday, September 10, we are hosting a very special Webinar. Six elective surgery practices from around the nation have volunteered their sites for a live critique. Everyone knows I rarely hold back...you can just imagine what will happen when I've been given permission to publicly dissect a site. There are already over 100 surgeons registered for the event. If you or a colleague would like to watch a live dissection of online medical marketing "don'ts" from 6 sample sites, just visit https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/559916781 to register.
